Notes on how to use this page

Find KiwiSDR receivers near a location.
Enter a latitude and longitude in the RX line, or drag the map to place the target location at the center of the crosshairs. The list of receivers will be sorted by distance from the target location. Sort the list by country, time zone, longitude, number of slots open, etc. by clicking the title at the top of the table.

Generate a propagation map for a transmitter.
If a callsign is in the database (4U1UN, CHU, WWV, etc), enter it as the TX Callsign. Autocomplete will help. Press Propagation to generate a propagation map from the transmitter location on the selected frequency. If a station transmits on multiple frequencies, delete the suggested frequency and press space to choose from a list.

Each receiver in the list will show a mini propagation forecast map for the receiver location. The colors represent how strong the signal is expeceted to be at that location. Stations very near the transmitter will show the red dot for likely local propagation.

Save a transmitter

Enter the callsign and coordinates (or drag the map to set the location as well as you know it) and enter a frequency. The frequency may also include KiwiSDR arguments such as cwn for CW narrow filter or amn for AM Narrow filter. Saved transmitter locations and frequencies are available to all users. Press the Save TX button to save the transmitter.

Generate a propagation map for a receiver
Enter the callsign in the RX call field for previously saved receivers and press Propagation to generate a map showing the expected propagation to the receiver. Or select the grid-square from the Maps column of the table. Transmitters in the hot colored areas are most likely to be heard. You can also click on the grid square link in the Map column to generate the forecast for any station available now. Propagation forecasts are created for you by OH6BG on Thank you, Jari!

Save a receiver

Receivers are identified by their grid square location, but you can also save them by their callsign or any other useful identifier. Once the map has been centered on the receiver location (by clicking the gridsquare in the Map column, enter a frequency if desired and press the Save RX button.

Listen to a receiver
Click on the station button to open the receiver in a new tab. If a frequency and mode are saved and associated with the station, the receiver will be tuned appropriately. The icons on the station button indicate features available on the radio, such as switchable antennas, VLF capability and GPS timing.

Rate the receiver stations
If a station has been saved, it can be rated for sensitivity and noise level and general performance. Notes or log entries can be added for the selected receiver. Click the rating button beside each receiver to read the notes or add more on a separate page. Please login with your callsign or username to identify your own notes and ratings if you haven't already done so. Unrated stations show as 50% s4 -140dB (Quality: 50%, Signal: 4, Noise: -140dB). If you have rated a station, your rating will be shown. Otherwise, the ratings of other users will be shown.

Don't forget that you can use the browser search (ctl-F) to search for receivers using terms such as VLF or an antenna type LZ1AQ or any other identifier of a station you once used and want to listen to again.

How often are the forecasts updated? The forecasts are created once an hour by based on the smoothed sunspot number predictions and sun positions for the current month.
